Dev Patil planned the hike. He chose the trailhead and the route, and told police he'd encouraged Jeremy to walk there rather than drive. Asked to explain how he'd planned the day, his answers were brief and didn't go further under questioning.

One of the four who waited at the trailhead that morning.

Iris Wallace was at the trailhead the morning of the hike. She volunteered that she'd driven past Jeremy's apartment the evening of October 14 (she says without stopping, just to clear her head), an account no one else can corroborate. Police also noted her public accounts carried repeated photographs of Jeremy from the preceding months; she says they document the friend group.

A club member who wasn't on the hike.

James Whitmore wasn't on the hike. He first told police he had no financial dealings with Jeremy, then in a second interview acknowledged a $5,000 loan he'd made that September, which he described as help with tuition. His phone and home internet place him in Seattle continuously across the night of October 14 and into October 15, an account investigators found inconsistent with any direct role in the disappearance.

A member of the true-crime club Jeremy belonged to.

Marcus Chen was one of Jeremy's friends from the true-crime club. Nearly six years on, he's the first of the group to agree to talk on the record. In 2020 he told police he overslept and reached the trailhead about fifteen minutes after the others; his phone had died the evening before and was left at home, and Sophie Reeves placed him with her that night.

Jeremy's girlfriend, and the person who reported him missing.

Sophie Reeves reported Jeremy missing on October 16, 2020. She told police her last contact with him was a text the evening of October 14, and that he'd mentioned finding something tied to the club's research, though she couldn't say what. Carrier records later showed an eighteen-minute call she placed to James Whitmore at 2:37 a.m. on October 15, which she didn't mention in her first interview and, asked about afterward, said she didn't recall.
